    Katharine Ross: Birthday

    American film actress
    Born: January 29, 1940

Katharine Juliet Ross was born January 29, 1940, in Hollywood, CA, to Katherine (née Mullen) and Dudley Tying Ross. Her father, who also worked as a reporter for the Associated Press, was a commander in the US Navy when she was born. His navy career shuttled the family around to Virginia, then Palo Alto, and finally to Walnut Creek, outside of San Francisco, where Ross grew up.
Ross graduated from Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek in 1957 and attended Diablo Valley College in the Bay Area, where she took part in her first on-screen work in a student film. Moving to San Francisco, into an apartment on Stockton Street above a grocery store, she began her acting career as an understudy in Actor’s Workshop productions, and was soon auditioning for roles. She was also married in 1960 to college sweetheart Joel Fabiani, the first of her five husbands.
Work came quickly for Ross, at first mainly in television westerns, and indeed, westerns would make up the majority of her best-known work, her natural beauty being a strong asset in that genre. She made her TV debut in an episode of Sam Benedict (1962), and her first film role was in the Civil War era Shenandoah (1965) starring James Stewart. Ross’s career as a leading actress began in earnest in 1967, with her strong turn co-starring with James Caan and Simone Signoret in Games (1967) and The Graduate (1967). Ross’s performance as Elaine earned her a Supporting Actress Oscar nomination.

  • Will Poulter: Birthday

    Will Poulter: Birthday

    British actor
    Born: January 28, 1993

Will Poulter is an English actor, recognized for his performances as Lee Carter in Son of Rambow (2007), Eustace Scrubb in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010), and Kenny Rossmore in We’re the Millers (2013). Will was born in Hammersmith, London, the son of Caroline (Barrah), a nurse, and Neil Poulter, a professor of cardiology. His mother was raised in an Anglo family in Kenya, where her own father was a prominent game warden at the Maasai Mara wildlife sanctuary.
Poulter was educated at the Harrodian School, where he participated in drama. He said in an interview that his drama teacher (Laura Lawson) encouraged his audition for the Hammer and Tongs film, Son of Rambow (2007), by knocking on his English class window and mouthing “auditions” while pointing at a flier. He was later cast as the spiky-haired delinquent “Lee Carter.” Laura Lawson was also responsible for the E4 comedy sketch show, School of Comedy (2009), in which Poulter appears portraying various roles, such as “Mr. Mills” and a South African security guard.

Will Poulter’s 5 most popular quotes

    • It’s difficult to tell whether people are looking at you because they recognize you from your work, or whether it’s just because you’re six foot three and have the eyebrows of Satan.
    • I wasn’t really happy in school and didn’t really have anything else going for me; I wasn’t really good at anything. Drama was at least something I loved and was really passionate about.
    • I love the process of auditioning and having the chance to play a million different characters in one week – it’s great.
    • Kissing scenes are never romantic or sexy, they’re actually super technical, like, “Move your head, you’re blocking her light,” or, “Stop looking like an idiot when you kiss her.” You do it again and again because of the camera angles and takes and whatnot. So by the end of it, it’s not even kissing. All the anything is totally drained out of it.
    • I barely read. I’m not a good reader at all. Rather than reading, I used to sit in front of the TV and watch black-and-white cowboy movies. I’m a painfully slow reader. It’s really bad as an actor, because you have to read a lot of scripts. It takes me like an average of three hours to read a script, which is pretty poor.

    American actor
    Born: January 28, 1981

Elijah Wood is an American actor best known for portraying Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s blockbuster Lord of the Rings film trilogy. In addition to reprising the role in The Hobbit series, Wood also played Ryan in the FX television comedy Wilfred (2011) and voiced Beck in the Disney XD animated television series Tron: Uprising (2012).

Born Elijah Jordan Wood on 28 January, 1981, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Wood is the son of Debbie (Krause) and Warren Wood, who ran a delicatessen. He has an older brother, Zach, and a younger sister, Hannah Wood. He is of English, German, Austrian, and Danish descent. Soon after, he began to get bookings for small parts on television.

Although his first credit was a small part in Back to the Future Part II (1989), Wood’s first major film role was in the ‘Barry Levinson’ historical family drama Avalon (1990). Following that, Wood became an in-demand child actor, appearing in a number of major films such as Paradise (1991), Radio Flyer (1992) and The Good Son (1993), in which he co-starred with Macaulay Culkin. This was followed by the first role for which he received top-billing, North (1994). Although the film was widely condemned and a disaster at the box office, Elijah was praised as the only good thing to come out of it.

    • There’s a real purity in New Zealand that doesn’t exist in the states. It’s actually not an easy thing to find in our world anymore. It’s a unique place because it is so far away from the rest of the world. There is a sense of isolation and also being protected.
