We two have paddled in the stream, from morning sun till dine; But seas between us broad have roared since days of long ago.
Some hae meat and canna eat, And some wad eat that want it, But we hae meat and we can eat, And sae the Lord be thankit.
But pleasures are like poppies spread, You seize the flower, it’s bloom is shed; Or, like the snow-fall in the river, A moment white, then melts forever.
The fear o’ hell’s a hangman’s whip to haud the wretch in order; But where ye feel your honor grip, let that aye be your border.
Then gently scan your brother man, still gentler sister woman, though they may gang a kennin wrang, to step aside is human.
I am little acquainted with politeness, but I know a good deal of benevolence of temper and goodness of heart.
A fig for those by law protected! Liberty’s a glorious feast! Courts for cowards were erected, Churches built to please the priest!
I found that old Solomon proved it fair, That a big-belly’d bottle’s a cure for all care.
Even thou who mournst the daisy’s fate, that fate is thine.
Unmatch’d at the bottle, unconquer’d in war, He drank his poor god-ship as deep as the sea; No tide of the Baltic e’er drunker than he.

What if all’s appearance? Is not outside seeming real as substance inside? Both are facts, so leave me dreaming.
I was made and meant to look for you and wait for you and become yours forever.
God made all the creatures and them our love and out fear, To give sign, we and they are his children, one family here.
On a day like today I am stung by the splendor of a sudden thought.
If you get simple beauty and naught else, you get about the best thing god invents.
Our interest’s on the dangerous edge of things. The honest thief, the tender murderer, the superstitious atheist.
I know what I want and what I might gain, and yet, how profitless to know.
But what if I fail of my purpose here? It is but to keep the nerves at strain, to dry one’s eyes and laugh at a fall, and baffled, get up and begin again.
This world’s no blot for us, Nor blank; it means intensely, and means good: To find its meaning is my meat and drink.
One who never turned his back but marched breast forward, never doubted clouds would break, never dreamed, though right were worsted, wrong would triumph.
