First Launch

6th September 1994, is the year that marks the launch of Heart Radio as 100.7 Heart FM and it started its journey as the third Independent Regional Radio station of UK, five days after Century Radio in North East England, and Jazz FM North West . Now here is an interesting info, would you like to know the title of the very first song Heart 100.7 played? It’s a song by “Simple Red” and the title of the song is “Something Got Me Started.” Back in the early days of Heart radio, the music format the radio was based on was “soft adult contemporary.” The slogan also reflected this theme of music back then, 100.7 degrees cooler! was the slogan of the radio.

One year after the launch, It began its test transmission in London in August 1995 as Heart 106.2, prior to the station launch on 5 September.

In 1996, the Heart programming format saw a slight change in its music format as the “soft AC” style of music was replaced with a generally more neutral “hot AC” playlist.

After GCap Media sold Century, Century 106 radio broadcasting from the East Midlands eventually became the 3rd radio of the Heart Network.

According to Wikipedia-Between June and September 2010, Global Radio merged the majority of the 33 Heart stations to create a smaller network of 18 local and regional stations, in line with new OFCOM guidelines on local output requirements. Two Hit Music Network stations were also closed and merged with Heart stations.

Programming

Most of the programs are being live broadcast from the Heart Network studios situated in Leicester Square, London. But, there are a few weekend programs that are voice-tracked.

Programs that are meant for local broadcasting are being mostly produced from the originating Heart station’s studios live. The time of broadcast for those programs are 6:00 am to 10:00 am and on weekdays 4pm-7pm and 6am-10am on Saturdays and on Sundays 12pm-4pm.

However, in the case of news based content, some of them are produced with the help from neighboring stations. For example, news bulletins for the network’s West Country, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire stations are all produced from Bristol.

History

CIGO started out as an AM station on 1410 kHz. Founded by local businessman Gérald “Gerry” Doucet, it first went on the air on October 29, 1975. In November 1999, CIGO received CRTC approval to convert from the AM band to the FM band. In 2000, CIGO switched over to the FM band and the AM signal was shut down permanently shortly afterward. As an AM station, it was known as “1410 CIGO”.

On June 8, 2010, MacEachern Broadcasting Limited (CIGO-FM) applied to increase their ERP (effective radiated power) from 19,000 to 40,000 watts and received CRTC approval on September 17, 2010.

History

The station was launched in 1981 by Q Broadcasting, as a country station with the call sign CIOI and the brand name Country 101. Q Broadcasting sold its holdings to Monarch Broadcasting in 1990. Monarch converted the station to the CKKN-FM call sign in 1995, and to its current format in 1999. The stations were in turn sold to Pattison in 2000 and became hot adult contemporary Hits FM at that time. By 2004, the station shifted to adult contemporary; ratings remained dismal from its adult top 40 format after the switch. It returned to hot adult contemporary as The River by 2005.

History

CKBB (AM) was launched on August 31, 1949, by Ralph Snelgrove’s Barrie Broadcasting Company at AM 1230. It signed on as Barrie’s first radio station, and was initially a mixture of music and talk programming. It moved to 950 AM in 1958.

In November 1994, after more than 45 years on the AM dial, CKBB moved to FM as CIQB-FM at 101.1. The station became known as “B101,” originally airing a hot adult contemporary format. CIQB was acquired by Corus Entertainment in April 2000. The station reverted to hot AC in August 2003 and finally to top 40 in 2008. It was one of three top 40 stations owned by Corus radio along with CKQB-FM in Ottawa and CKBT-FM in Kitchener.

On July 27, 2016, CIQB’s website was replaced with a countdown clock to July 29 at Noon. At that time, after playing “Anybody Listening” by Classified, the station flipped to classic rock, branded as “101.1 Big FM”. The first song on “Big FM” was “Big Time” by Peter Gabriel.
