History

Midland-Penetang Broadcasting Ltd. opened CKMP 1230 AM on July 1, 1959, with studios at 196 Dominion Street in Downtown Midland.

The studios moved in 1990 to a new facility on Cranston Crescent off Highway 12 in Midland, in a facility that also housed Telemedia’s community newspapers. When the simulcast began, CKMP’s format changed from AC gold to country music.

CKMP moved to 104.1 FM in 1994, changing call letters to CICZ, while CFOR became CICX-FM, broadcasting at 105.9 FM. Larche Communications purchased CICZ from Telemedia in 1997 and acquired CICX from Rogers Communications in 2007.

On March 3, 2008, Larche moved the country format to CICX, replacing the Orillia station’s former Jack FM format, and adopted the classic rock format on CICZ. On August 9, 2017, Bell Media announced that it would acquire CICZ-FM. Bell Media received approval from the CRTC on February 14, 2018.

History

CHMB began as an English-language station that was called CHQM. It signed on the air on December 10, 1959, as an easy listening station under the ownership of Vancouver Broadcast Associates Ltd. with 10 kW of power. In September 1984, CHQM began airing the “Music of Your Life” format from 6 p.m. to midnight daily while retaining its main easy listening format for the balance of its broadcast day.

On January 1, 1990, CHQM dropped its longtime easy listening format to an adult contemporary format and began using the on-air brand Lite 1320. On December 14, 1993, the CRTC approved CHUM’s sale of CHQM to Mainstream Broadcasting Corporation.

On February 9, 1994 (on which the Chinese New Year fell that year), CHQM signed off for the final time at 9 p.m. with Bob Hope’s “Thanks for the Memories” as the farewell song and was replaced moments later by CHMB. Original station co-owner Jack Stark died on October 30, 2001, at age 83.

On April 17, 1979, CFCW Limited, owner of CFCW in Camrose, received approval to operate a new FM station in Edmonton. On January 13, 1995, the station adopted the name “Mix 96”, and shifted to a hot adult contemporary format.

Following the transition of Power 92 to the hot AC formatted “Power 92.5” in June 2003, the station shifted to CHR and adopted the slogan “Edmonton’s Only Hit Music Station”, which (after Power 92 changed to adult hits) changed to “Edmonton’s #1 Hit Music Station”.

On March 28, 2008, at 3 PM, CKRA changed formats again, this time moving from country to classic hits as “96.3 Capital FM”. The final song on “Big Earl” was “Goodbye Earl” by the Dixie Chicks. Since 1984, CIAO-AM 530 (Brampton/Toronto) has given quality programming to countless new Canadians in an assortment of dialects. The station, owned by Evanov Radio Group, broadcasts a multilingual programming format.

History

The station was launched in 1953 as AM 1090 CFJB, a daytimer owned by broadcaster Fen Job. He was killed in a car crash in 1956, and the station was sold by his estate to CHIC Ltd. in 1959, adopting the new callsign CHIC the following year.

In 1964, CHIC became a full-time broadcaster, moving to AM 790. From 1966 to 1969, it operated as an “all-girl” format using the slogan “CHIC – Where The Girls Are” in which only female announcers appeared as deejays.

The station adopted its current callsign in 1987 and moved to its current frequency in 1991 after CJFT in Fort Erie converted to the FM band.

CHUM FM started broadcasting on September 1,1963 with an ERP of 18,000 watts and a transmitter and studio at 1331 Yonge Street. It aired a classical music format, the first station in Canada to do so.

In June 1984, the station started evolving towards adult contemporary, with the shift completed by that September, though the station would retain a rock lean through the remainder of the decade.

The station evolved towards its current Hot Adult Contemporary format in 1990. TraXX FM is an online based English-language radio station operated by Radio Televisyen Malaysia. This station is fully owned and funded by the Malaysian government. Basic genres are Talk and contemporary hit. Traxx FM enters 90% coverage of the whole of Malaysia. The station’s aim is to educate, inform and to entertain listeners. According to Nielsen’s Radio Audience Measurement (RAM) done in 2009, TraXX FM is the fifth most listened to English radio station in Malaysia.

History

It started broadcasting on 1 January 1950 as the Blue Network. The station used to be branded as the Blue Network, Radio 4 and Radio Malaysia Channel 4. It was Malaysia’s only English language radio station until 1994, in which the control was broken by the launch of TIME Highway Radio. The station’s first tagline was ‘Travel and Music’ after re-branding to a tourism-oriented radio station. It then switched back to “Experience the Excitement” to ensemble its present role as information based radio.

Branding

The name “TraXX” (in use since April 2005, as a part of re-branding of RTM’s radio stations) is derived from the word ‘TRACK’ and ‘XX’, the later denoting the old tagline ‘Xperience the Xcitement’.

The 96.3 MHz frequency on the FM band used to be engaged by Expat Radio XFM 96.3 by Mediacorp. It ceased operations on 30 September 2016. SPH Chinese Media Group is the present owner of this radio station.

In November 2017, SPH Radio announced 96.3 好 FM and Money FM 89.3, after being awarded the tender to operate two new radio stations by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) in March 2017.
