    History

CKBB (AM) was launched on August 31, 1949, by Ralph Snelgrove’s Barrie Broadcasting Company at AM 1230. It signed on as Barrie’s first radio station, and was initially a mixture of music and talk programming. It moved to 950 AM in 1958.

In November 1994, after more than 45 years on the AM dial, CKBB moved to FM as CIQB-FM at 101.1. The station became known as “B101,” originally airing a hot adult contemporary format. CIQB was acquired by Corus Entertainment in April 2000. The station reverted to hot AC in August 2003 and finally to top 40 in 2008. It was one of three top 40 stations owned by Corus radio along with CKQB-FM in Ottawa and CKBT-FM in Kitchener.

On July 27, 2016, CIQB’s website was replaced with a countdown clock to July 29 at Noon. At that time, after playing “Anybody Listening” by Classified, the station flipped to classic rock, branded as “101.1 Big FM”. The first song on “Big FM” was “Big Time” by Peter Gabriel.

Listen to the magnificent harmonious songs of your preference all day long.”101 The Farm” is a fully modified internet radio station which provided you with 100% pleasure.

    History

CKXA-FM is a Canadian radio station owned by Bell Media, broadcasting at 101.1 FM in Brandon, Manitoba. The station broadcasts country music as 101.1 The Farm. The station went into operation on December 5, 1928, as CKX, and was owned and operated by the Manitoba Telephone System. In 1947 the provincial government announced that it was leaving the radio business.

The station moved to FM in 1999. It added an A to its callsign when it moved to FM, as it already had a sister station using the callsign CKX-FM. In 2001, CKXA-FM changed to a Top 40 format under the name Hot 101, similar to owner Craig Broadcasting’s “Hot 103” (CKMM-FM) in Winnipeg.

In 2007 Astral Media acquired CKXA as part of its purchase of Standard Broadcasting. In 2013, Bell Media acquired the station from Astral Media when the Astral Media was sold to Bell Media.

On June 27, 2013, after a previous such application had been denied in 2012, the CRTC approved an application by Astral Media Inc. to sell its pay and specialty television channels, conventional television stations, and radio stations to BCE Inc., including CKXA-FM.

If you’re tired of pre-programmed, repetitive, commercial radio stations, then Country Music is the place you want to be. This station offers 60% Canadian content which makes us highly unique, we support independent Country artists, and they are one of the few remaining separately owned and operated radio stations left in Canada.

    History

The station originally began operating in 2001 on 101.1 FM, as Manitoulin’s first local community radio station with a rock format including a mix of various formats such as oldies, classic hits, retro music with some current music branded as Rock’n the Rock. On October 23, 2006, CFRM-FM changes formats to its current country music format. After the move to 100.7 FM in 2007, the station became 100.7 The Island.

In 2008, Manitoulin Radio Communication Inc. (Manitoulin Radio) applied to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to add a low-power FM transmitter in Sudbury to rebroadcast the programming of CFRM-FM Little Current.

In 2010, 100.7 The Island FM won Radio Station of the Year in a Secondary Market at the Canadian Country Music Association Awards.

    Expanding horizons

In 2014, Manitoulin Radio filed an application with the CRTC to add a second sister station at 103.1 FM. The new station was approved on April 1, 2015, as CHAW-FM, with 100.7 becoming “Glow 100”.

On April 1, 2016, at 12:00 PM noon, 100.7 The Island, the country music station moved to CHAW-FM 103.1 and CFRM-FM 100.7 become Glow 100 “Manitoulin’s Hot Dance” with a top 40/dance music format.

Station owners Craig and Kelly “KT” Timmermans are also producers of the Manitoulin Country Fest, a local country music festival staged each August.
