    After receiving a full-time license in 2000, 2MAX FM has been broadcasting to the regional area for more than 15 years. It broadcasts 10 KWatts from the top of Mount Dowe and may be heard in Narrabri, Wee Waa, Coonabaraban, Gunnedah, Moree, and the rest of the Narrabri Shire.

    2MAX FM started off as Narrabri Shire Community Radio, a fledgling community radio station (NSCR). A small group of residents sought to start a community radio station and discovered that community licenses were available. Following a public meeting, a steering group was constituted.

    The first test broadcast came from the Old Shire Council building, where a little antenna hung out the office window was running at approximately 5 watts! The test broadcaster lasted a week, but the Narrabri population generally disregarded it.

    Throughout the 1990s, a series of test transmissions were carried out. Another community aspirant organization emerged in the late 1990s, causing NSCR to share frequency on a turn-around basis. This compounded the lack of financial support from the local community. Many corporations chose a wait-and-see strategy.

    When the full-time license was ultimately granted in 2000, then-President Terry Hogan was surprised by the lack of excitement. In Narrabri, it was simply business as usual. The launching of MAX FM, coupled with a far more aggressive sales team lead to some limited acceptance by the local community. A focus on the oldest members of the community seemed to be the right niche for MAX FM, with income, membership and technical growth was substantial.

    Programming

    The majority of the music aired on the station is country, but it also includes Folk, Rock & Pop, Classical, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, and Christian/Religious. This is what the people polled want to hear. The station serves as a convenient outlet for Australian musicians.

    Community radio focuses on giving individuals a local voice, particularly those who would not otherwise have access to airwaves. This could include ethnic language programs, print-disabled programs, homosexual and lesbian members, kids programs, or niche music. This is made much more difficult in rural regions like Narrabri, where censorship and conservatism are the norm.

    The “Max FM Mornings” program is a recent addition to the lineup. Between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., it provides information on the local community, such as Bush Bargains, school news, the Mayor’s Narrabri Shire Council Report, a local weeds report, and a What’s On In Our Shire report.

    History

    1980s – 2Day FM was one of three radio stations in Sydney (together with Triple M and Triple J) to be granted new FM broadcasting licenses in 1980, and began broadcasting on August 2, 1980. The studios were originally located on the second floor of the Sovereign Inn, 220 Pacific Highway, Crows Nest. In February 1987, the station was sold to the Lamb Family, who then sold it to radio firm Austereo in May 1989.

    1990s – In 1995, the station’s owner Austereo purchased the Triple M network from Hoyts, and following the merger of the two companies in 1996, 2Day FM relocated its studios and administration to Level 24, Tower 1, Westfield Bondi Junction at 520 Oxford Street, just one floor below Triple M’s original home since 1980.

    2000s – 2Day FM broadcasted from Bondi Junction until October 2005, when both 2Day FM and Triple M relocated to World Square, Goulburn Street, Sydney. The new location featured cutting-edge Klotz Digital equipment as well as a street-level studio. 2Day FM began 2005 with a number of changes, the most notable of which was the relocation of the drive show combination of Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O to breakfast and the hiring of a young and unknown Craig Lowe as the host of the nightly networked show Lowie’s Hot30.

    The station broadcasts from the Hampden Road Artarmon Tower, which is shared by television stations 7, 9, and 10.     History

    3AW was founded when a company formed by Allans, JC Williamson, and David Syme (then publishers of The Age newspaper) was granted a radio broadcasting license, with the first broadcast on February 22, 1932.

    The original broadcast frequency of 3AW was 1425 kHz, but it was changed to 1280 kHz on September 1, 1935, as part of a national rescheduling of the radio broadcasting spectrum. With the introduction of 9 kHz spacing on the AM band on November 23, 1978, the station’s frequency was changed to 1278 kHz.

    The 3AW studios are housed in Media House, 655 Collins Street, Melbourne, and share space with Magic 1278, the Australian Financial Review, and The Age newspapers. From 1991 to March 2010, the studios were located on Bank Street in South Melbourne.

    In the sixth rating survey for 2014, released on September 30, 2014, 3AW ranked first with a 13.8 percent market share, followed by 774 ABC with an 11.4 percent share and Fox FM with an 8.2 percent share. Every time slot was won by 3AW in this survey.

    In the fifth rating survey for 2014, which was released on August 26, 2014, 3AW came in first with a 14 percent market share, followed by 774 ABC with a 12 percent market share and Fox FM with an 8.0 percent market share. In the fourth survey, 3AW dropped to second place with a 13.0 percent market share, trailing 774 ABC’s 13.4 percent and Gold 104.3 FM’s 7.4 percent.

    In the first survey for 2014, released on 11 March 2014, 3AW was the No. 1 station scoring an 11.9% market share followed by 774 ABC’s 10.6% share with Fox FM third on 8.5%.  The final rating survey for 2013 and the last to be conducted by Nielsen, saw 3AW complete five years as Melbourne’s number one radio station with 40 consecutive survey wins.

    Muslim Community Radio (call letters 2MFM) is a community radio station based in Bankstown that broadcasts to Sydney on a citywide license. It is a volunteer-run organization that is primarily supported by listeners.

    Darulfatwa – Islamic High Council of Australia is affiliated with the station. Beginning in 1995, the station broadcast under a temporary license during Ramadan and Dhu al-Hijjah, and then added a weekly Friday broadcast in 1997. On May 24, 2001, a full community broadcasting license was granted. The Australian National Imams Council requested that the radio station’s license be revoked in 2011 due to its ties to Al-Ahbash and its promotion of “sectarian fringe views.” The Australian Communications and Media Authority, on the other hand, granted a 5-year license in 2011, drawing criticism from Islamic groups.

    Casey Radio’s role as a community broadcaster is to provide general local community programming such as entertainment, news, and information, with the goal of “informing, entertaining, and involving” its listeners. The station’s eclectic mix caters to the diverse needs of the communities, ranging from local council news to sport, country to comedy, retro to modern, rock to rockabilly, and a wide variety of ethnic and multilingual programs.

    CASEY RADIO 97.7fm is perhaps best known for its diverse programming. The City of Casey retained ownership but agreed to provide financial support and grants in exchange for station presenters emphasizing the term “Casey Radio” during announcements beginning in 2003. On July 15, 2005, the signal began to be a webcast. Cranbourne station experienced turbulence in 2008-09, despite having secured a further four years of council funding and still attempting to establish “transparent management practices.”

    3SER began refreshing its identity and logo, utilizing the Casey Radio moniker, and funds were set aside to launch a new website. Due to perceived poor governance and a strained relationship with the council, the City of Casey quarantined a $75 000 funding allocation from the 2017-18 fiscal year. A progress report to the council is due in 6 months, after which the held funds may be released.

    In 2014, 3SER was officially rebranded Casey Radio to reflect our mutual, ongoing relationship with our major sponsor, the City of Casey, and the broader community.     History of 3Way

    The Community Radio Endeavour Warrnambool (CREW) association was founded in 1985. The Association’s goals were outlined in the “proposed statement of purpose.”

    • Obtaining a public radio broadcasting licence for the Warrnambool area, as well as establishing a broadcasting station to carry out the terms of such a licence.
    • Attempt to involve all residents of Warrnambool and the surrounding area in all aspects of the station’s operation.
    • To attempt to provide programming through such a station that caters to interests that are not catered for by national or commercial stations in Warrnambool and district.

    In September 1990, after many “test” broadcasts, a license was granted. With the help of over 100 volunteers, a 24-hour broadcast was launched. The station ID 3WAY (for Warrnambool And You) was chosen.

    Since then, 3WAY-FM has been in continuous operation and now also streams live on the Internet, allowing listeners from all over the world to tune in using Internet-capable devices such as smartphones, tablets, and computers.

    The station is operated entirely by volunteers as a community service.

    Listeners and members are encouraged to take advantage of 3WAY-competitive FM’s sponsorship package. Prices for 13 weeks of daily advertising begin at only $250.

    Throughout the year, 3WAY-FM hosts events for its members and friends. Every year, ‘Hank Williams Night’ is a sell-out.

    Cumberland Community Radio has been broadcasting on 90.5 MHz FM since 1992. Originally known as ‘The Sound of Style’ and then simply ‘2CCR,’ the station has been known as Alive 90.5 since November 4, 2011.

    Mission

    Alive’s mission is to serve its community by broadcasting a diverse range of programs that are appropriate for all groups in the community. Alive 90.5 is a volunteer-run organization that is supported by listener donations, grants, and limited commercial sponsorship.

    History

    Cumberland Community Radio was formed in the 1980s by the merger of two groups attempting to establish community radio stations. One group is in the Hills, while the other is in the Parramatta/Holroyd area. The organization began testing broadcasts between 1987 and 1989. The organization was given Building 9 in the Balcombe Heights Estate by Baulkham Hills Shire Council in 1988, and it has remained there ever since. The organization was granted a community radio license in October 1992 and began broadcasting on 90.5 FM on December 12, 1992.

    Alive 90.5 began live streaming of its programs over the internet in April 2009. This allows people who live outside of the service area to enjoy the variety of programming provided by Alive 90.5. To support a variety of listening client programs, there are two internet streams: 128 kbit/s Joint Sterero MP3 and 64kbit/s stereo AAC.

    The City of Holroyd was originally included in the broadcast area of Alive 90.5. Alive 90.5 updated their logo and broadcast area in late 2017 to include the newly formed Cumberland Council. In May 2016, the City of Holroyd merged with its neighbors to form the new council.

Alive 90.5 also airs programs presented by special interest groups representing interests in Australian music and sport, as well as programs broadcast in languages other than English.     History

    This radio station began broadcasting on 1170 kHz AM in 1931, later 780 kHz, and then 774 kHz in 1978 when all AM transmitters were shuffled into the 9 kHz spacing regime. The station moved to the FM band in 1998, under the ownership of dmg Regional Radio, which was later sold to Macquarie Regional RadioWorks and Southern Cross Media Group.

    The 774 kHz AM repeater was decommissioned in January 2015, and the masts were demolished in December 2015. On August 16, 2016, a repeater covering the Burdekin region on 92.3 MHz was activated from Mt Inkerman, south of Home Hill.

    On September 3, 2018 4TOFM was rebranded to 102.3 Triple M.

    2WEB Outback Radio is a community radio station. The Community Radio Codes of Practice govern what you hear on community radio. It broadcasts from Bourke, which is located in the Far Western region of New South Wales and is known as the “gateway to the “real” outback.” The Codes of Practice address program content issues such as local content, news, current affairs, Australian music content, children’s programming, and the responsibilities associated with community broadcasting. These codes also address issues such as community access and participation in the service’s operation.

    2WEB is Bourke’s community radio station, “the gateway to the “real” outback,” broadcasting local news, current events, Australian music, and much more! The broadcast area of this radio station extends over 130,000 square kilometers. In the listening area, there are few “major centers,” but there are many smaller towns and communities. Due to the seasonal nature of much of the industry, the population fluctuates throughout the year; however, the estimated static population of the listening area is around 100,000 people.

    Since 1978, 2WEB has been broadcasting to far western New South Wales, southwest Queensland, and northeastern South Australia. The center of its listening area is also the intersection of two of Australia’s newest highways. The ‘Kidman Way’ is the most direct route from Melbourne to Darwin, and it is quickly gaining popularity among both transportation companies and tourists. The Kamilaroi Highway connects Melbourne and Brisbane and has long been the preferred route for Victorian, South Australian, and Western visitors heading to coastal Queensland.

Irrigated agriculture has gradually surpassed instantly recognizable staples such as broad acre farming and grazing. Mining and mineral exploration have played an important role in the local economies, alongside viticulture and irrigated agriculture.

    Tourism is by far the fastest-growing new industry in the region. The outback has become a high-priority destination for both international and domestic markets as a result of the country’s overall success. The outback has come to symbolize Australia as much as the Harbour Bridge or the Opera House, which has become far more accessible in recent years due to increased infrastructure and more easily recognized due to the communications explosion.
